Our Beliefs
United Methodist and the Christian Tradition
United Methodist are part of the broader Christian family, united by a shared heritage and foundational beliefs. As outlined in The Book of Discipline, our doctrinal standards affirm the core tenets held in common with Christian communities around the world. These include the following essential convictions:
Jesus
We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and his life, death and resurrection demonstrate God's redeeming love. Read more
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God's present activity in our midst. When we sense God's leading, God's challenge, or God's support or comfort, it is the work of the Holy Spirit. Read more
Human Beings
Genisis 1:27 asserts that we have been made in the image of the Creator. Like God we have the capacity to love and care, to communicate and create. Read more
The Church
The Church is the body of Christ, and extension of Christ's life and ministry in the world today. Read more
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the primary authority of our faith and practice. Read more
God's Reign
The kingdom or reign of God is both a present reality and a future hope. Read more
